Founder & Owner
My Book of Life, just a little more about me….
I have always loved to scribble, draw, paint, and design stuff since early primary school.
Along the years, my path took many, many detours. I dabbled in various occupations, but art and design followed me first and foremost and emerged in almost everything I put my hands to.
Inevitably I was destined to study Fine Arts, and fresh out of Art School I had dreams of becoming a famous artist (!) with my work hanging in galleries all over the world… but alas, life has to be lived and we adjust accordingly. My first full-time job landed me at Museum Africa, and soon after at The Johannesburg Art Gallery, as a layout artist and curator of various art acquisitions and antique displays. I was in awe being surrounded by antiques and collectable items from yesteryear, paintings, sculpture, prints and loads more interesting acquisitions. I was constantly on an inspirational high! Thus began my well-travelled road in collecting and trading in antiques and collectables.
During the early 1980’s I became a full-time professional ceramist, operating a large teaching studio as well as incorporating a ceramic agency. By 2000 ‘the little house by the sea’ brought us all the way to the beautiful and peaceful seaside village of Betty’s Bay, situated in the Overstrand region of the Western Cape. New expectations and many new challenges awaited me. I soon opened a unique gift shop in the small neighbouring town of Kleinmond.
Of course I needed loads and loads of beautiful items for the store which included exotic jewellery! I then started to design and make exquisite, personalised jewellery pieces for my customers. With this exposure I was inspired with unique ideas constantly coming to mind.
Inevitably semi-retirement was on the cards, the store changed hands and shortly thereafter, I became part-owner of the annual Betty’s Bay Christmas Market. My unique pieces found a wonderful new outlet at the annual Disakloof Gift Market, as well as the annual Easter Gift Market in Betty’s Bay. I also participate in various other markets held throughout the year in and around our area.
I cannot mention Betty’s Bay without telling you about our famous neighbours, just down the road from where I live. They don black and white coats and waddle along the roads when- and wherever they please. Stony Point Penguin Colony is home to the African Penguin (also known as the Jackass Penguin), one of only two shore-based colonies along the South African coast.
Betty's Bay lies within the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve; the first UNESCO declared Biosphere in South Africa. The area constitutes the heart of the Cape floral kingdom, the smallest of the world's floral kingdoms. Commonly known as Fynbos, this vegetation includes the King Protea, our national flower, Ericas and reeds, to name but a few. This area is predominantly coastal and mountainous.
Thus dear visitor, you now know a little more about me and my surroundings. I love what I do. Thus I am delighted and thrilled to share my love of distinctive pieces with you.
Always take care of yourself and Shine Uniquely wherever you go!
